Calhoun is preparing for their first district matchup of the season on Friday. They will head out on the road to challenge the Ingleside Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Calhoun gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Van Vleck, sneaking past 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Sandcrabs have posted since February 27, 2025.
Jordan Pena was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. Pena was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kally Billings, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Bre LeVrier, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Ingleside hadn't done well against Sinton recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Mustangs came out on top against the Pirates by a score of 5-2. The Mustangs haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Kylee Ward spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Kaylee Murua was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Ingleside kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matchups.
The win was their first on the road, bumping their record up to 4-5-1. As for Ingleside, their record now sits at 13-8.
Calhoun might still be hurting after the 9-3 defeat they got from Ingleside when the teams last played back in April of 2025. Can the Sandcrabs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
