The Eaton Rapids Greyhounds will take on the Grand Ledge Comets in a tournament on Monday. Eaton Rapids is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Eaton Rapids' tournament run continued when they took on Beal City on Sunday. The Greyhounds took an 8-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Aggies. The Greyhounds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Eaton Rapids saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abi Pratt, who went 2-for-4 with one run.
Meanwhile, Grand Ledge had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Redwings a 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Comets, who have now won 17 contests by seven runs or more so far this season.
Tomia Geter made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted over her last five matchups.
In other batting news, Indya Fitzpatrick and Amelia Bernard did most of the damage at the plate: Fitzpatrick went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Bernard went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Those five RBI gave Fitzpatrick a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Addy Mclean, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs.
Grand Ledge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .621. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Grand Ledge's victory bumped their record up to 23-2. As for Eaton Rapids, their defeat dropped their record down to 20-11.
