Union County is a perfect 4-0 against Cottondale since March of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Fighting Tigers will take on the Hornets at 10:00 a.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Union County comes in on six and Cottondale on 12.
Union County is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lafayette, sneaking past 8-7.
Kendall Carter was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in 11 consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jasen Sullivan, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Westyn Miller, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Cottondale made easy work of Port St. Joe on Sunday and carried off a 13-3 victory.
Like Union County, Cottondale also got a great game from a two-way player: Conner Barton. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Barton was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Lane Johnson was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Jaydon Gray was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double.
Union County's win bumped their record up to 22-7. As for Cottondale, their victory bumped their record up to 18-11.
Wednesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Union County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .442. However, it's not like Cottondale struggles in that department as they've averaged .441. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Union County got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2018 against Cottondale by a conclusive 12-2 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Fighting Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
