The Sumner Spartans will venture away from home to square off against the Emerald Ridge Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sumner will be strutting in after a win while Emerald Ridge will be coming in after a defeat.
Sumner barely beat Curtis the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Spartans took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 49-3 victory over the Vikings. With the Spartans ahead 35-3 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Lance McGee continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 168 yards and five scores on only 15 carries. Sumner is 3-1 when McGee posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Nate Donavan was another key player, throwing for 223 yards and one touchdown while completing 72.2% of his passes.
Sumner didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Curtis to a completion percentage of just 39.4%. The Spartans have been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.61 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.61 in their last three games.
Meanwhile, Emerald Ridge lost to South Kitsap at home by a 21-7 margin on Thursday. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Sumner will have to contain Brayden Paulino as he made an impact in Emerald Ridge's last game. He threw for 112 yards and one TD, and also rushed for 46 yards.
Sumner has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 46.0 points over those games. As for Emerald Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.
Friday's contest might be decided in the trenches. Sumner has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 206.6 rushing yards per game. It's a different story for Emerald Ridge, though, as they've been averaging only 83.3 rushing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant running game?
Everything came up roses for Sumner against Emerald Ridge in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the team secured a 38-6 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
