Kennedy and San Fernando are an even 4-4 against one another since October of 2015, but not for long. The Cougars will head out to face off against the Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Kennedy will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Kennedy will bounce into Friday's game after beating Canoga Park, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Cougars simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Hunters 49-0. The matchup marked the Cougars' most dominant victory of the season.
It was another big night for Diego Montes, who threw for 183 yards and a pair of TDs on only 11 passes, and also rushed for 35 yards and one score. Josue Sandoval also helped with two touchdowns in total.
Another reason for the win was Kennedy's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. Jacob Andrade got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
San Fernando hadn't beaten Sylmar on the road since October 28, 2019 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. The Tigers took down the Spartans 43-24.
San Fernando's win came from a few key players Kennedy will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Andrew Newchurch, who picked up 81 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 43 yards and one TD. Another player making a difference was Darrion Turner Jr, who picked up 111 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
San Fernando didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Newchurch and Rickie Garcia. Garcia got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Kennedy's record is now 7-1. As for San Fernando, their record now sits at 6-2.
Everything came up roses for Kennedy against San Fernando in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, as the team secured a 62-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
