Garden Grove recap October 29, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Rancho Alamitos, who defeated 871st ranked Bolsa Grande, 32-27. Steven Espino during the win.
Garden Grove added to the longest winning streak in Garden Grove this week by beating Los Amigos, 49-0. This was the team's eighth consecutive win.
Garden Grove's dynamic duo of Angel Martinez and Fredrick Creswell proved tough for the Lobos to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Martinez threw for 125 yards and 3 touchdowns and Creswell had 67 yards receiving. Reily Hoalton helped Garden Grove's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 28 yards.
Armando Ahumada provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Matadors lost to the Vaqueros. Ahumada's key target this week was Reno Lace, who caught 3 passes for 41 yards.
Josh Labossiere was a key player and the best on defense this week as Rancho Alamitos defeated Bolsa Grande. The 5-foot-8 junior forced 1 fumble and recorded 1 fumble.
Mike Enright's team's Nicholas Brown and Devin Velez led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Brown has thrown for 1,338 yards this season, while Velez, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 37 catches for 592 yards. Los Amigos' Jose Olvera leads the league in rushing yards with 946.
Carl Agnew's team's Olvera is a mere 54 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 113 carries Olvera has put up 946 yards this year.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Willy Puga's team takes on Santiago. The Argonauts are currently in first, while the Cavaliers are in third.
The Vaqueros moved up to 892 from 923 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Garden Grove. Rancho Alamitos was able to move up by beating the Matadors 32-27.
