St. John's was led to victory by Daeshia Buford and Kaniya Smith. Buford scored 13 points along with eight steals, while Smith scored 19 points along with six rebounds and five assists. That makes it three consecutive games in which Buford has scored at least 25% of St. John's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Bella Thornley, who scored two points along with three steals.
St. John's win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Lowcountry Leadership, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. John's will face off against Charleston Math & Science at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Charleston Math & Science is out to stop a seven-game streak of losses at home. As for Lowcountry Leadership, they will head out on the road to face off against Military Magnet Academy at 12:00 p.m. on Monday. Military Magnet Academy presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Lowcountry Leadership in South Carolina (Military Magnet Academy is ranked 20th, while Lowcountry Leadership is ranked 280th).
