Germantown hasn't had much luck against Tupelo recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Mavericks are taking a road trip to face off against the Golden Wave at 7:00 p.m. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Germantown sitting on four straight wins and Tupelo on seven.
Germantown is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They really took it to DeSoto Central for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-42 victory. The Mavericks' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

Germantown's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Nyrikius Johnson, who rushed for 232 yards and five TDs while picking up 11.0 yards per carry. Those 232 rushing yards gave Johnson a new career-high. Lawson Branson helped out on the ground, rushing for 111 yards and a rushing touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Germantown was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 478 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Tupelo faced Starkville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Golden Wave strolled past the Yellowjackets with points to spare, taking the game 28-10.
Tupelo's win came from a few key players Germantown will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Jaeden Hill, who rushed for 173 yards while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, and also caught one score. He showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 54 yards. Another player making a difference was Braylen Williams, who rushed for 82 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Germantown's record is now 8-3. As for Tupelo, their record now sits at 11-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Germantown has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 149.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Tupelo struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 303.1 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Germantown couldn't quite get it done against Tupelo in their previous matchup back in October of 2024 as they fell 12-0. Can the Mavericks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
