Even though the Hawkinsville Red Devils have not done well against the Bleckley County Royals recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Hawkinsville slipped by Bleckley County 46-45. The win was all the more spectacular given Hawkinsville's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 259th, while Bleckley County is ranked 108th).
It was another big night for Darius Anderson, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 19 rebounds. Anderson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nelson Singletary, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
The win (which was Hawkinsville's fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-3. As for Bleckley County, their loss dropped their record down to 13-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hawkinsville will face off against Telfair County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Telfair County and Hawkinsville are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads. As for Bleckley County, they will head out on the road to challenge East Laurens at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. East Laurens has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 358 points over their last five games.
