Softball Recap: Banning Has No Trouble Against Mira Costa

Banning made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Mira Costa, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Banning blew past Mira Costa 11-1 on Saturday. For the Pilots, this counts as revenge for the 13-0 victory the Mustangs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2023.

Banning got a great performance from Alana Lopez as she didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Lopez has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Banning let Sophie Cuadra and Kali Sue run wild. Cuadra went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Sue went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI Sue has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Destiny Garcia, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Banning kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.

Banning's record now sits at 5-10. As for Mira Costa, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-12.

Looking ahead, Banning will host Narbonne at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mira Costa, they are taking a road trip to challenge South at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. South will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Mira Costa surely won't give up without a fight.
