St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute was the clear victor by a 71-51 margin over Health Sciences Charter on Monday. Given the Marauders' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Falcons are ranked 190th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Nate Blenman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 7 of 11 en route to 19 points. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. Gionni Zelasko was another key player, putting up four points in addition to six assists and six boards.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's lost to Jamestown on the road by a 90-73 margin on Saturday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Thursday (72), the Lancers still had to take the loss.
St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute will have to contain Will Szablewski as he made an impact in St. Mary's last game. He dropped a double-double on 35 points and 14 rebounds. The contest was Szablewski's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Patterson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten assists.
Even though they lost, St. Mary's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in nine consecutive matchups.
St. Mary's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as both are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 63.5 points per game. However, it's not like St. Mary's struggles in that department as they've been averaging 62.4 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute took their victory against St. Mary's in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 76-53. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
