Monte Vista Christian extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 5-11. They came up short against the Hollister Haybalers, falling 11-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Haybalers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-13 on Wednesday.
Monte Vista Christian saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Netzer, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI. Another was Bryson Boles, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
As for Hollister, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 10-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.0 runs over those games.
On Hollister's side, Eli Lovejoy made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Lovejoy has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Joradn Quezada and Evan Mendoza did most of the damage at the plate: Quezada got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Mendoza went 2-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Mendoza has posted since back in March.
Monte Vista Christian wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 6-5 defeat against Sequoia on the 18th. As for Hollister, they will head out on the road to take on Monterey at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
