The Hawkinsville Red Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Twiggs County Cobras at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Hawkinsville had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They strolled past Chattahoochee County with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 73-56. Hawkinsville pushed the score to 63-39 by the end of the third, a deficit Chattahoochee County cut but never quite recovered from.
Darius Anderson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Anderson is crushing the rebound category: he's posted at least ten every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Nieem Blair, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Twiggs County had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points), and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 58-56 win over Hancock Central.
Twiggs County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kamauree Butler, who scored 19 points. Daniel Pitts was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
The victory got Hawkinsville back to even at 9-9. As for Twiggs County, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-12 record this season.
Hawkinsville strolled past Twiggs County in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 49-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hawkinsville since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
