Hughson found their leader in freshman Karam Kang, who went 9 for 16 from beyond the arc en route to 31 points plus six assists and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of James Seay, who went 7 for 8 en route to 14 points plus eight rebounds and two steals.
Hughson was working as a unit and finished the game with 27 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since the start of last season.
Meanwhile, Waterford was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They were dealt a 59-32 loss at the hands of Modesto. The Wildcats were down 45-25 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Christian Gayle, who earned eight points. Another player making a difference was Santiago Hernandez, who posted seven points.
Waterford's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Hughson, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
