ST. HELENA, Calif. -
Saint Mary's (Albany, Calif.) took an early lead against
St. Helena (Calif.) and held on for a 24-7 victory on Saturday.
The Panthers put up 21 points in the opening frame. Saint Mary's scored on an
Ian Bonde touchdown pass to
Ben Schrider, a
Tamarik Pierce touchdown run and a touchdown run by
Lorenzo Logwood.
After taking the lead on a touchdown pass by Bonde to Schrider in the first quarter, SM led 21-0 at the half.
The Albany school saw its 21-point halftime lead decrease to 17 entering the fourth.
St. Helena's only touchdown came on a 44-yard pass from
Jack Preston to
Davon Browne in the third quarter.
The Panthers had given up an average of 15.7 points prior to the contest. The seven points that the Saints ended with were well below their average of 28.8 coming into the game.
The loss comes after St. Helena defeated Kelseyville 47-20 last week. The win brought Saint Mary's' winning streak to three games.
