The Frankton Eagles typically have all the answers at home, but on Tuesday the Yorktown Tigers proved too difficult a challenge. In a tight match that could have gone either way, they made off with a 47-46 victory over the Eagles. That's another feather in the cap for Yorktown, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Yorktown got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Addy Barnes out in front who scored 14 points along with two steals. Lilly Sylvester was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
Amaya Collins and Emma Sperry certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Collins scored 21 points, while Sperry scored 14 points along with four steals and three blocks. That was a full 45.7% of Frankton's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Frankton struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only an offensive rebound. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Yorktown is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Frankton, their loss dropped their record down to 13-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Yorktown's road trip will continue as they head out to face New Castle at 7:30 p.m. on January 19th. New Castle has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 12. As for Frankton, they will head out on the road to take on Blackford at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Blackford focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday.
