The Summit Academy Bears lost against the Cottonwood Colts back in December of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. Summit Academy was the victim of a tough 67-44 loss at the hands of Cottonwood. Summit Academy has struggled against Cottonwood recently, as their game on Tuesday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Summit Academy had strong showings from Avery Backus, who scored 20 points along with 5 rebounds, and Destinee Flores, who scored 13 points along with 6 rebounds. Backus scored a full 45.5% of Summit Academy's points, the second time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sierra Johnson, who scored 2 points.
Cottonwood can attribute much of their success to Avea van der Beek, who scored 18 points. Ciel Budge was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
Summit Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Cottonwood, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Summit Academy will take on North Summit at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Summit presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Summit Academy in Utah (North Summit is ranked 26th, while Summit Academy is ranked 100th). As for Cottonwood, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Cedar Valley at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Cedar Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Tuesday.
