Baseball Recap: Lakewood Sets Scoring Season-High Against Clearwater

Lakewood scored the most runs they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They lost 17-9 to the Clearwater Tornadoes. The Spartans just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.

Christian Burney was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. What's more, he posted two doubles, the most he's had since back in February of 2024. Mikal Morris was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Lakewood's record is now 1-9. As for Clearwater, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lakewood will challenge Pinellas Park at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Lakewood has given up an average of 9.9 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week. As for Clearwater, they will head out on the road to take on Palm Harbor University at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Palm Harbor University will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.
