Eli Gross and Thomas Piscorik did most of the damage at the plate: Gross scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Piscorik went 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Piscorik a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Blackburn, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Middle Creek beat Cary 8-3 on Thursday.
Gabe Murray made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other pitching news, Casey Murray looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Middle Creek got a big performance out of Brady Pierson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. Will Tobin was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Middle Creek hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive contests.
Middle Creek's win bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Wakefield, their victory bumped their record up to 11-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Wakefield has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Middle Creek struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
