The Superior Wildcats's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their ninth straight loss. They fell to Red Cloud 36-31. Superior was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Red Cloud apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2019.
Superior lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Dayne Clark, who scored ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Thomas Mathis, who scored five points.
Red Cloud found their leader in underclassman Gage Ely, who scored 13 points along with five assists and four steals. Ely has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Mason Bolin, who scored five points along with six rebounds.
Superior dropped their record down to 1-13 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.7 points per game. As for Red Cloud, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-8.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Superior will take on Deshler at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Deshler focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Friday. Red Cloud won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Blue Hill at 2:00 p.m. on January 20th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Blue Hill is ranked 242nd, while Red Cloud is ranked 229th).
