Basketball Game Preview: St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute Marauders vs. Jamestown Red & Green

St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute is on a seven-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Jamestown is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute Marauders will welcome the Jamestown Red & Green at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Last Tuesday, St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute made easy work of Nichols and carried off a 70-46 win. Given the Marauders' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while the Vikings are ranked 224th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jaymeir Goosby continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6 of 13 en route to 14 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Mekhi Gidney, who posted nine points along with five boards and three steals.

St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Jamestown won against Williamsville North on Monday with 84 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Wednesday. Jamestown blew past Lancaster, posting an 84-44 victory. That looming 84-44 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Red & Green yet this season.

St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute is also on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.9 points per game. As for Jamestown, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.

St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute lost to Jamestown at home by a decisive 57-41 margin when the teams last played back in January of 2015.
