Basketball Recap: Contra Costa Christian Takes a Loss

If Contra Costa Christian was riding high fresh off their 73-45 takedown of Quarry Lane two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Contra Costa Christian Cougars took a blow against the Redwood Christian Eagles on Tuesday, falling 52-20. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 519th, while the Eagles are ranked 143rd).

Despite the loss, Contra Costa Christian still got an impressive performance from Gerrit Johnston, who posted eight points and 16 rebounds. Johnston has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 12 times he's played.

Even though they lost, Contra Costa Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Redwood Christian got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was David Rogers out in front who went 8 of 14 on his way to 16 points along with six boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Omar Alshraideh, who had ten points and four steals.

Contra Costa Christian now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Redwood Christian, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Contra Costa Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 64-23 victory against Chartwell on the 5th. As for Redwood Christian, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 75-46 win against KIPP King on the 5th.
