Not much got past Audrey Gildea, who gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks to keep Seton off the board. Gildea has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Mount Notre Dame let Kat Zielinski and Katie Iams run wild. Zielinski went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run, while Iams got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs Iams has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Grace Pitzer, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, in Monday's Canine Competition, St. Ursula Academy came out on top. They took their contest against Mercy McAuley on Monday 4-0.
The result came thanks to O Basil's shutout, as she gave up just a hit and racked up 16 Ks.
On the hitting side, St. Ursula Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was J Booth, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. J Vogelgesang was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
St. Ursula Academy hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mercy McAuley struck out 16 times.
Mount Notre Dame pushed their record up to 10-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for St. Ursula Academy, their win bumped their record up to 13-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Mount Notre Dame has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like St. Ursula Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 11.5 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
