Cedar Springs is on a nine-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and Greenville a three-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Saturday. The Cedar Springs Red Hawks will look to defend their home field against the Greenville Yellow Jackets at 10:00 a.m. Cedar Springs will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
Having struggled with ten defeats in a row, Cedar Springs turned things around against Oakridge on Monday. They put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 10-3 victory. The Red Hawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
The team relied heavily on Austin Alcumbrack, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted over his last 11 contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicholas Robinson, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Greenville got themselves on the board against Belding on Friday, but Belding never followed suit. They came out on top against the Black Knights by a score of 5-0.
Kamdon Mills made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Greenville is 4-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-8 otherwise. Mills was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Sullivan (Sulli) Witt was excellent, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Cedar Springs' win bumped their record up to 2-12. As for Greenville, they now have a winning record of 11-10.
Cedar Springs skirted past Greenville 3-2 in their previous meeting back in March. Do the Red Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellow Jackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
