Savannah Country Day (Savannah, Ga.) pulled its record back up to .500 with its 17-14 victory over
Portal (Ga.) on Saturday.
The Panthers pulled ahead on a touchdown pass by
Evan Street to
Trent Thomas, and subsequently went into halftime leading 14-6. The Hornets took the lead to win the game on a field goal by
Colton Lichtenberg in the third quarter.
Savannah Country Day has had a tough season, allowing 30.1 points per game. However, Savannah Country Day's defense stepped up, holding Portal right around its season average of 11.7 points per game.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Savannah school came away with a 40-22 victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Portal, which notched a 10-7 victory over Savannah Christian in its previous outing. The win brought Savannah Country Day's winning streak to three games.
Savannah Country Day (4-4) goes up against Savannah Christian in an A Region 3A game matchup next week, while Portal (2-5) locks horns with Calvary Day also in an A Region 3A game.
