Two dominant signal callers in Jamison Roberts and Aaron Frye are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Saraland Spartans will take on the Clay-Chalkville Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are still undefeated (Saraland has 13 wins , while Clay-Chalkville has 14 dating back to last season).
Saraland is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 38-21 win over Benjamin Russell.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Roberts and Kingston Preyear. Roberts had a great game and threw for 300 yards and two TDs. Meanwhile, Preyear was balling out in the loss, throwing for 241 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also rushing for 51 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Saraland's defense and their six sacks. In that department, Jakari Harris was the leader with two. He also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 12. Another thorn in Benjamin Russell's side was Ayindae Pugh, who picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles.
Meanwhile, Clay-Chalkville faced Muscle Shoals in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Cougars strolled past the Trojans with points to spare, taking the game 30-13.
Saraland better keep an eye on Joshua Woods. He was instrumental in Clay-Chalkville's win, rushing for 100 yards, while also picking up 33 receiving yards and one score. Woods' rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 100 rushing yards.
Clay-Chalkville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 275 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 180 rushing yards in six consecutive games.
Saraland's victory bumped their record up to 13-0. As for Clay-Chalkville, their win bumped their record up to 14-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Saraland has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 160.4 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Clay-Chalkville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 230 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Saraland couldn't quite finish off Clay-Chalkville in their previous matchup back in December of 2023 and fell 31-28. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
