New Milford is 1-7 against River Dell since April of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Sunday. The Knights will be taking part in a tournament against the Golden Hawks at 2:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
New Milford's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They blew past Garfield 11-0. The game marked the Knights' most dominant win of the season.

Jesse Brophy made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because New Milford is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-7 otherwise. Brophy was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Liam Block, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Luis Placido, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
New Milford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, River Dell had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Cliffside Park on Friday as they made off with a 14-1 victory. The Golden Hawks not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st (when they won 32-7).
Michael DeGroat tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
On the hitting side, River Dell let Chris Kelm and Nathan Silverstein run wild. Kelm went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI, while Silverstein went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits Silverstein has posted since back in April. Michael Porco was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
New Milford now has a winning record of 8-7. As for River Dell, their win bumped their record up to 5-11.
New Milford might still be hurting after the 10-2 defeat they got from River Dell in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Knights avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
