The Moore Catholic Mavericks are on the road again on Thursday and plays the St. Joseph-by-the-Sea Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Moore Catholic stacked an eighth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Tuesday. They blew past Wagner 60-26 on the road. Moore Catholic pushed the score to 51-20 by the end of the third, a deficit the Falcons had no chance of recovering from.
Moore Catholic's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brianna Caliri, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Another player making a difference was Emma Costanzo, who scored 15 points along with seven assists.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph-by-the-Sea waltzed into their game on Friday with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 77-68 win over Trenton Catholic Academy. Given St. Joseph-by-the-Sea's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked ninth in New York, while the are ranked 51st in New Jersey), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Moore Catholic's win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for St. Joseph-by-the-Sea, they pushed their record up to 14-4 with that victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Things could have been worse for Moore Catholic, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 66-48 loss to the Vikings in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Moore Catholic avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
