Basketball Recap: Austin-East Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Tymirrianna Brown and Ja'onna Witt

Austin-East lost against Alcoa on January 3rd and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Austin-East Roadrunners fell 56-44 to the Alcoa Tornadoes. While losing is never fun, the Roadrunners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Tornadoes are ranked 34th).

Despite the defeat, Austin-East had strong showings from Ja'Onna Witt, who went 7 of 14 on her way to 19 points along with seven boards and four steals, and Tymirrianna Brown, who posted 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals. Brown is crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Sammie Stewart, who put up four points in addition to three steals and three blocks.

Austin-East has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-10 record this season. As for Alcoa, they pushed their record up to 15-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Austin-East has already played their next contest (against Fulton), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Alcoa will welcome Gatlinburg-Pittman at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Gatlinburg-Pittman is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.7 points per game this season.
