The Tolleson Wolverines will face off against the Ironwood Eagles at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Tolleson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Tolleson is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Mohave Accelerated just ended the team's ten-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 9-6 to the Patriots. The loss put an end to the Wolverines' undefeated start to the season.
Marina Lara was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ironwood). They were the clear victor by a 20-8 margin over Youngker last Thursday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Roughriders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Alyssa Ridgley was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Furthermore, she didn't allow a single earned run, the first time she has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring four runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-6. Those four runs gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Addison Monahan was a standout: she got on base in all six of her plate appearances with five runs, four RBI, and one double. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelaine Gober, who scored three runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-6.
Ironwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .580. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Youngker only posted an OBP of .324.
Having lost for the first time this season, Tolleson fell to 10-1. As for Ironwood, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-5.
Tolleson's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's contest. Tolleson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Ironwood, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Tolleson continue to outrun the ball?
Tolleson came up short against Ironwood in their previous meeting back in April of 2015, falling 6-3. Can Tolleson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
