El Capitan has gone a perfect 4-0 against Ripon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The El Capitan Gauchos will head out on the road to face off against the Ripon Indians at 4:00 p.m. El Capitan's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Ripon's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
On Saturday, El Capitan came up short against Gregori and fell 8-5.
El Capitan saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jesse Saucedo, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Noah Ruiz also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ripon). Everything went their way against Buhach Colony on Friday as Ripon made off with a 10-1 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Joseph Molthen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Ripon is 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Logan Spear, who scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Kackley, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 1-for-3.
Ripon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Buhach Colony only posted an OBP of .080.
Ripon is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. El Capitan now has a losing record of 3-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. El Capitan has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Ripon struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
El Capitan took their win against Ripon in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for El Capitan since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
