Two dominant guards in Romello Pegues and Derek Green are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Triton Hawks will head out on the road to take on the E.E. Smith Golden Bulls at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Triton posted their biggest win since December 15, 2023 on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Western Harnett as Triton made off with a 56-34 victory. That's two games straight that Triton has won by exactly 22 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Triton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ahmad Morris, who scored eight points along with six rebounds. Morris' trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of B. J. Surles, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, E.E. Smith took their match on the road on Monday with ease, bagging a 68-40 win over Western Harnett. Given E.E. Smith's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 292nd, while Western Harnett is ranked 614th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Decarlo Brunson was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Asany Richmond was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five assists.
The win makes it two in a row for Triton and bumps their season record up to 12-5. As for E.E. Smith, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Triton hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 57.1 points per game. However, it's not like E.E. Smith struggles in that department as they've been averaging 59.6 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Triton beat E.E. Smith 68-60 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Triton since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
