The Bowne Wildcats will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Wagner Falcons at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Bowne has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 610 points over their last eight matchups.
Bowne has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 20 points or more this season. They put the hurt on Eagle Academy III with a sharp 76-50 victory on Thursday. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Bowne has managed all season.
Bowne's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Darrel Taylor, who scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. Taylor has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Khaleel Williams-Mitchell, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, even though Eagle Academy II scored an imposing 55 points on Thursday, Wagner still came out on top. Wagner walked away with a 63-55 win over Eagle Academy II. The victory was all the more spectacular given Wagner's disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 317th, while Eagle Academy II is ranked 49th).
Bowne's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Wagner, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Bowne might still be hurting after the 78-55 loss they got from Wagner in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Can Bowne avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
