Football Recap: Eldorado Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Aerith Sanchez and Elizabeth Rubio

Eldorado was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 32-12 to the Mater Academy East Las Vegas Knights. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Firehawks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 22-14 back in December of 2024.

Elizabeth Rubio and Aerith Sanchez certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Rubio picked up 121 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Sanchez rushed for 101 yards on only ten carries. The dominant performance gave Rubio a new career-high in receiving yards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mater Academy East Las Vegas to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cheyanne Thornhill, who rushed for 101 yards and one touchdown on only eight carries, and also threw for 71 yards and one touchdown. Jasmine White was another key player, rushing for 64 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries.

Eldorado's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-4.

Eldorado will venture away from home to face off against Democracy Prep Agassi Campus at 4:30 p.m. on January 17th. Eldorado is facing Democracy Prep Agassi Campus at the right time seeing as Democracy Prep Agassi Campus is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Mater Academy East Las Vegas, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 34-14 win against Sierra Vista on the 13th.
