After a string of five wins, the Grenada Chargers's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They had to suffer through a rough 93-58 loss at the hands of Olive Branch. While losing is never fun, Grenada can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while the Conquistadors are ranked eighth).
When it comes to explaining why Grenada lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jarques Perry. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. Perry hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 13 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Zach Townsend, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Grenada now has a losing record at 11-12. As for Olive Branch, they are on a roll lately: they've won 16 of their last 19 games, which provided a nice bump to their 23-5 record this season.
Grenada will be playing at home against the Pirates at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Olive Branch, they will head out on the road to take on the Tigers at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. The timing isn't great for South Panola: they have been struggling with ten straight losses at home, while the Conquistadors have snatched up 14 consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
