After flying high against the Elba Bluejays on Tuesday, the Giltner Hornets came back down to earth. Giltner fell 47-40 to Heartland on Friday. Giltner found out winning isn't easy when you don't work as a unit and rack up seven fewer assists than your opponent.
Giltner's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Preston Larson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 10 rebounds. The contest was Larson's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Ballard, who scored 12 points along with 4 steals.
Heartland was led to victory by Thane Wetjen and Hendric Switzer. Wetjen scored 8 points along with 10 rebounds and 4 blocks, while Switzer scored 19 points along with 7 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Switzer has scored at least 25% of Heartland's points. Luis Alvarez was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 6 rebounds.
Giltner's loss dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Heartland, their victory bumped their record up to 1-3.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Giltner will challenge Nebraska Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Nebraska Lutheran focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday. As for Heartland, they will head out on the road to face off against Deshler at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
