The Gibbs Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Union County Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Gibbs scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They breezed by Cumberland Gap at home to the tune of 94-63. Gibbs pushed the score to 71-48 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers had little chance of recovering from.
Zack Turner continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 6 for 13 from beyond the arc en route to 36 points and 7 assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kamen Shown, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Union County entered their tilt with the Dragons with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Union County secured a 56-52 W over the Dragons on Wednesday.
Gibbs' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-12. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.0 points per game. As for Union County, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.
Gibbs skirted past the Patriots 63-60 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gibbs since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
