After a string of four wins, Brookfield Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 60-39 walloping at the hands of Dominican. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Brookfield Academy in their matchups with Dominican: they've now lost four in a row.
Loss or not, Brookfield Academy got some senior leadership from Amelia Rigel who scored 20 points and Luci Jensen who scored 13 points. Rigel has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played.
Meanwhile, Living Word Lutheran stacked an eighth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They claimed a resounding 70-38 win over Messmer on the road. Living Word Lutheran's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Living Word Lutheran found their leader in underclassman Delaney Winkelmann, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 rebounds. Winkelmann hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Kaleah Alles was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with eight assists.
Brookfield Academy's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-4. As for Living Word Lutheran, they pushed their record up to 12-0 with that victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.
Brookfield Academy barely slipped by Living Word Lutheran when the teams last played back in January of 2023, winning 60-59. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Living Word Lutheran's Madeline Fox, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds.
