Hartford Central and Corinth are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Hartford Central Tanagers' road trip will continue as they head out to face the Corinth Riverhawks at 5:00 p.m. on February 10th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Hartford Central has not done well against Warrensburg recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. Hartford Central snuck past Warrensburg with a 52-47 win.
Mckenzie Johnson and Alawnah Dunda were among the main playmakers for Hartford Central as the former scored 18 points along with six rebounds and the latter dropped a double-double on ten points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Cailin Severance, who scored nine points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Corinth came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Whitehall 50-32. Given Corinth's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 207th, while Whitehall is ranked 529th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hartford Central's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for Corinth, their victory bumped their record up to 14-2.
Things could have been worse for Hartford Central, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 50-35 loss to Corinth in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Can Hartford Central avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
