Girard found their leader in sophomore Chloe Plant, who had eight digs and one block. Plant also set a new season-high mark in assists with 40.
Girard was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 18 aces. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rootstown only served four.
If Cardinal Mooney wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Columbiana, they should've done a better job of containing Hailee Gomoll. The Clippers blew past the Cardinals 3-0 on Thursday thanks in part to Gomoll, who had eight digs and five aces. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more aces the last three times she's played.
The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 25-14, 25-15.
Girard's win ended a four-match drought on the road and puts them at 8-15. As for Columbiana, their record is now 19-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Tuesday's match: Girard has really dialed in their serving this season, having averaged 9.5 aces per game. However, it's not like Columbiana struggles in that department as they've been averaging 14.7 aces. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Girard was able to grind out a solid victory over Columbiana in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 3-1. Will the Indians repeat their success, or do the Clippers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
