Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for The Bladensburg Mustangs, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were dealt a 63-0 defeat at the hands of Flowers on Friday. While losing is never fun, Bladensburg can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland football rankings (they are ranked 175th, while Flowers is ranked 40th).
Joshua Jefferson was on fire for Flowers: he rushed for 128 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries. Jefferson was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 57 yards. Darryl Groves made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Bladensburg's loss was their fourth straight on the road , which bumped their record down to 3-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 3.5 points per game. As for Flowers, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-1.
Bladensburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Flowers will be playing at home against Eleanor Roosevelt at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Eleanor Roosevelt is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
