Football Recap: Wahkiakum Takes Down Ranked Northwest Christian

Wahkiakum faced Northwest Christian in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Mules blew past the Wolverines 54-22. Fans of the Mules have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Jayden Stoddard was his usual excellent self, rushing for 108 yards and one touchdown on only six carries, while also throwing for 167 yards and three TDs on only eight passes. He is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cooper Carlson, who gained 116 total yards and two touchdowns.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wahkiakum was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 214 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 165 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.

Northwest Christian's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Jacob Kearns, who rushed for 151 yards and one score while picking up 7.9 yards per carry, and Ashton Carlisle, who rushed for 77 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only nine carries.

Wahkiakum's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 11.0 points on average over those games. As for Northwest Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

Coming up, Wahkiakum will square off against Winlock at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Northwest Christian, they will challenge Ocosta at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Wolverines will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 29.67 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
