Citrus Belt recap October 29, 2013
Anthony Valverde of Redlands East Valley ran for the longest rushing play in Citrus Belt this season against Miller last week.
Eisenhower scaled the state rankings by moving to 170 from 203 this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Eagles climbed the ranks as a result of beating Yucaipa 21-14.
The Wildcats' offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Armando Herrera threw for 228 and 5 touchdowns and Anthony Grayson had 83 yards receiving. On the ground Malik Lovette contributed 137 yards. Lovette helped Redlands East Valley's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 73 yards.
He was 12-19 with 1 interception.
Herrera put up the best numbers through the air as Redlands East Valley topped the Rebels. Herrera's favorite target this week was Grayson, who caught 5 passes for 83 yards.
6-foot-0 quarterback Herrera of Kurt Bruich's team is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,154. He has also thrown 13 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Brandon Scott. The Yucaipa star has 37 catches for 844 yards.
As it stands, the Thunderbirds are in second, while Cajon is in fifth.
The league will see a high scoring game when the Wildcats and Redlands face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Redlands East Valley comes in having scored 254 this season, while the Terriers have scored 193. The Wildcats scored 55 points last week as they defeated Miller.
Redlands East Valley took down Justin Nast's team 55-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Herrera ran for 27 yards during the win.
