New Albany is 6-1 against Amory since December of 2014, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The New Albany Bulldogs are on the road again and play against the Amory Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on December 19th. Hopefully New Albany focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Friday.
Last Friday, New Albany came up short against Senatobia and fell 62-52. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as New Albany came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while Senatobia is ranked 69th).
Despite the defeat, New Albany saw an underclassman step up: Braden Shettles scored 23 points along with seven rebounds. Those seven rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Ke?Lan Simpson, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Amory had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.5 points), and they went ahead and made it five last Friday. They secured a 49-45 W over Shannon.
New Albany's defeat dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Amory, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-2.
New Albany didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Amory when the teams last played back in December of 2022, but they still walked away with a 60-55 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Albany since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
