Portsmouth West is 1-9 against Wheelersburg since October of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Portsmouth West Senators will head out on the road to face off against the Wheelersburg Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Portsmouth West is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last eight games.
Last Friday, Portsmouth West humbled Oak Hill with a 49-14 victory. The result was nothing new for Portsmouth West, who have now won five matches by 27 points or more so far this season.
Mason Parker was his usual excellent self, rushing for 130 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Parker was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards. Braden Adkins was another key contributor, rushing for 65 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Meanwhile, you're bound to get a positive result if you outscore your opponent every quarter, and that's exactly how it played out for Wheelersburg on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that they blew Minford out of the water with a 51-0 final score. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Wheelersburg had established a 44 point advantage.
Portsmouth West's win was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.8 points per game. Wheelersburg has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season.
Portsmouth West was able to grind out a solid win over Wheelersburg in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, winning 14-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Portsmouth West since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
