The Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory Fightin' Irish are taking a road trip to take on the Saint Mary's Panthers at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so Saint Mary's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Archbishop Mitty a 4-0 shutout. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Fightin' Irish as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory got a great performance from Jacob Vines as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 5.1 innings pitched. Vines also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory is 4-2 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Rohan Kahns, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Evan Liu also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Saint Mary's). They walked away with a 10-7 win over Hercules on Tuesday. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Titans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Brandon Sanchez made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Jed Volpe was incredible, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2. Nico Pilara was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Saint Mary's hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most four strikeouts in three consecutive matches.
Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Saint Mary's, their record now sits at 2-5.
Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory came up short against Saint Mary's when the teams last played back in April of 2017, falling 3-0. Can Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
