The Tomahawk Hatchets will face off against the Marathon Red Raiders at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
Things were looking good for Tomahawk after they put the first run on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Lakeland by a score of 3-2. The Hatchets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Marathon came out on top against Athens on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive 11-run fourth inning. The Red Raiders put the hurt on the Bluejays with a sharp 16-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Red Raiders, who have now won 11 games by nine runs or more so far this season.
Tyla Beilke-Seubert was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Mayven Schneider was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Mylee Haehlke was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Marathon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Athens only posted an OBP of .211.
Marathon's win bumped their record up to 14-3. As for Tomahawk, their loss dropped their record down to 7-9.
Tomahawk was able to grind out a solid victory over Marathon in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, winning 8-5. Do the Hatchets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Red Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
