Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only the Pleasant Grove Spartans walked away with it. They claimed a resounding 49-7 victory over Boaz on the road. Considering Pleasant Grove has won eight games by more than 24 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Pleasant Grove's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Camren Wormley led the charge by gaining 115 total yards and a touchdown. Wormley was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 60 yards. Pleasant Grove also got a significant boost from Collin Moore, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 105 yards.
The victory (which was Pleasant Grove's eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.5 points per game. As for Boaz, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
Pleasant Grove will face off against Guntersville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Alabama (Guntersville is ranked 37th, while Pleasant Grove is ranked 25th). Boaz does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
