The Cape Fear Academy Hurricanes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 21 points or more this season. Everything went their way against Living Water Christian on Friday as Cape Fear Academy made off with a 62-41 victory. Given Cape Fear Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 111th, while Living Water Christian is ranked 295th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cape Fear Academy was led to victory by Thomas Watkins and Kareem Anderson. Watkins scored 14 points along with nine rebounds, while Anderson scored 16 points along with five assists and three steals. That's the first time this season that Watkins pulled down eight or more rebounds. Angelo Vega was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Living Water Christian saw an underclassman step up: Dwight Hooker scored nine points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hooker has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Savion Peppers, who scored ten points.
Cape Fear Academy's victory was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. As for Living Water Christian, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cape Fear Academy's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Westchester Country Day at 2:00 p.m. on December 21st. Living Water Christian will be home for the holidays to greet Southeastern HomeSchool at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
