Mt. Vernon is a perfect 9-0 against Anderson since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Marauders will host the Indians at 5:30 p.m. Mt. Vernon will be strutting in after a win while Anderson will be coming in after a loss.
Mt. Vernon will bounce into Monday's matchup after beating Shelbyville, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Marauders walked away with a 6-1 victory over the Golden Bears on Friday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Marauders.
Amelia Anderson was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out seven over seven innings pitched. Anderson was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, Ashlyn Laffey was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Norah Pierce, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Mt. Vernon was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Anderson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 6-1 to Kokomo.
Like Mt. Vernon, Anderson also got a great game from a two-way player: Chelsea Shaker. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Shaker has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.
Shaker wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Shelby Brough, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple marked the first that Brough has hit this season.
Mt. Vernon now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Anderson, their loss dropped their record down to 3-14.
Everything went Mt. Vernon's way against Anderson in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, as Mt. Vernon made off with a 10-1 win. Will the Marauders repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
